2008 BMW K1200S – $9,500

SELLER SAYS: 2008 BMW K1200S for sale. What would happen if Germany decided to have a right proper crack at building a bike to take on the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Honda Blackbird, with just a hint of BMW practicality? Well, this is what would happen. The four-cylinder K1200S was BMW’s first iteration of a hyper-sports bike, with mad-as-can-be performance stirred in with BMW’s renowned long-distance highway credibility and comfort — including heated grips, shaft drive, passenger grab handles, and ABS brakes. This is a lovely example of the breed, in excellent condition and unmodified apart from a nice Staintune exhaust that makes it sound like a fighter jet (as well as go like one). The bike has just had a major service and going-over by Thorsten Friz at BM Bikes in Jandakot (Perth), has good tyres and a fresh battery, and runs superbly. This is a bike you could ride two-up from Perth to Phillip Island, hit the track and set some rapid A-grade lap times, then load up and ride home again — without breaking your back or your wrists. Only selling to fund something a little older and slower, to better suit its current owner! There is a great story online comparing the BMW with a Hayabusa, Blackbird and Kawasaki ZX12R (click here to read it), and a lengthy article that goes into the big Beemer’s impressive technology  — you can read that here.
