EDITORS COMMENT: MV Agusta has become one of our favourite marques in recent years. The relatively small Italian brand has a wonderful history, dominating Grand Prix racing for nearly two decades by winning both the Rider and Constructor Championships every single year from 1958 through 1974. And early in that run — 1958, ’59 and ’60 — the company not only won the 500cc title, it also won the 125, 250, and 350 titles. We first saw this bike of Steve’s at the WA Vintage Motorcycle Club’s annual show in 2018 and thought it was one of the most gorgeous pieces of machinery we’d ever laid eyes on. If you’re paying attention, you’ll have noticed it’s a ’72 model which means it comes from MV’s heady glory days as king of the world. The company went bust and vanished in 1980 then was reincarnated in 1997; not with some limp-wristed made-in-Taiwan copy but with a small range of superb sports bikes that actually deserved to wear the MV badge. Editor Terlick owns one of the modern four-cylinder Brutales, and his road test is an entertaining read which includes more on the MV Agusta back story. You can read it here.
