EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: There has been only a handful of new models in motorcycle history that have truly provided a quantum leap in performance and styling — and the GSXR750 was one of them. Born from the impressive but comparatively staid GSX750 sports-tourer, the GSXR arrived in 1985 as a pure sports bike with extraordinarily light weight and, for the day, huge power. Keep in mind that anything under 200kg was a lightweight in the 1980s, and 100hp was a very big deal. And getting both in the same package was virtually unheard of. While the performance spoke for itself, the twin-headlight endurance-racer styling gave the Gixxer additional race-bike cred on the showroom and at the track, making it the dominant track bike for years afterwards.
